Global Experience
Have you always dreamed of traveling across the country—or across the world? Does the idea of reading in a Parisian café or swimming in the Indian Ocean sound appealing? If so, watch the video above to learn more about the exciting ways to fulfill your experiential learning requirement while studying abroad! Options for fulfilling the experiential learning requirement within the Global Experience track include the following:
-
Approved courses: Enroll in a Global Seminar course or take another class from the approved course list below to automatically satisfy the experiential learning requirement!
-
Other study abroad options: Participate in any approved study abroad program of at least four weeks and submit a course proposal upon your return to fulfill your experiential learning requirement.
Be sure to review the eligibility criteria before finalizing your plans for studying abroad if you would like your coursework to satisfy the requirement.

Updated Approved Course List
An updated approved course list is effective as of Fall 2024. The previous approved course list was only effective through Summer 2024. To minimize any impacts to long-term planning, students who entered the university prior to Fall 2024 can write into the Virtual Advising Center to request an exception to this change.
Once you've enrolled in a class from the previous approved course list, you can send a message asking to have it applied to your experiential learning requirement and your degree audit will be manually updated. Again, please note that you must wait until you've registered for the previously approved course to submit this request.
Course Proposal
If you have an experiential learning class in mind but don't see it on the approved course list, you can propose it for review by submitting a course proposal before the deadline specified for the category of that course: study abroad coursework, special study 198 or 199 courses, and other UC San Diego classes.
Resources and Opportunities
For more ways to get involved within this fulfillment track, browse the list of experiential learning resources and opportunities by category. Please note that only the programs with classes noted in the "Approved Course" column offer coursework applicable toward the experiential learning requirement; others may not include credit-bearing coursework and therefore would not be eligible to satisfy the requirement.
